Sedum - Night Embers

Sultry Purple-Black Foliage

Dark black purple leaves shoot up from the soil in early spring creating towering two foot tall shoots of night. Starting in the summer pink to mauve flowers emerge creating cloudbursts of color held aloft above the darker plant. This depth of color is not something that is easily or often found in the garden and used in the right setting it will create a dramatic effect. This tall upright sedum provides a substitute for shrubs in the garden. Spent heads continue to provide interest and food for birds through the winter. Seed heads can be removed in early spring to make way for the next season's dark plum colored growth.Vase-like, upright habit with stout purple-black foliage stands tall all season. The clusters of mauve-pink flowers sizzle atop from late summer to fall like glowing embers. Stonecrop provides beautiful low-care summer and fall color. Let dried flower heads remain to provide nice winter interest and provide food for the birds. Sedum store water in their thick succulent leaves which enables them to be extremely drought tolerant. Sedum Night Embers is an upright Sedum variety great for a hot, sunny site.
